About Us

Approach:
Huperetes Advisors
exists to provide vital, value-added service to our clients.  Our focus on this simple concept is embodied in our name – “Huperetes”, which is the classical Greek word for “servant”.  Literally translated as “under rower”, Huperetes came to be applied to a wide range of servants in classic Greek society – those who make the objectives and burdens of others their own and work devotedly toward achieving those objectives.  Drawing inspiration from the literal translation of Huperetes, we drive you forward toward your goal, working in sync with your team, like rowers pulling together.  While we all prefer to be driven by a strong wind in our sails, we know there are times when the wind dies or shifts direction to drive you backward.  It’s in those moments, that rowers become indispensable.  We strive to deliver the same value to our clients.

Mission:
The mission of Huperetes Advisors is to connect people and ideas to drive results, solve problems and navigate an efficient course through regulatory complexity.

History:
Huperetes Advisors
’ founder and president, Andy Hensler, brings your team 15 years of experience in land use, development and natural resources combined with skilled conflict resolution and a solid knowledge and understanding of business operations and transactions, both as an executive and attorney.  He uses this experience and his unparalleled perspective gained from years of providing both law firm and in-house counsel, to drive practical solutions that add tangible value (saving time and money for his clients).  While no stranger to head-on conflict, Andy’s success for his clients flows from his collaborative, solutions-oriented approach that avoids costly, unnecessary conflict and wasted time.

Before founding Huperetes Advisors, Andy was Vice President and Assistant General Counsel of The Vail Corporation, where he oversaw the legal affairs of the Mountain Division and had company-wide responsibility for legal oversight of environmental and natural resource matters and management of Vail’s extensive water rights portfolio.  While at The Vail Corporation, among other things, Andy played a key leadership role, working with the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) and other ski industry leaders, in defending ski area water rights from threatened encroachment by the Federal government; obtained a number of critical development approvals, including the US Forest Service’ approval of the historic Peak 6 expansion at Breckenridge Ski Resort; and successfully defended Forest Plan amendments, formulated strategy for and obtained approval of ski area Master Development Plans, oversaw local government land use approvals, and was instrumental in the addition of summer uses at ski resorts.

Andy started his career in private legal practice, first with O’Melveny & Myers and later with Klein, DeNatale, Goldner.

Our Services

Why Hire Huperetes?
•  Extend or create in-house management of legal affairs.  Huperetes Advisors provides flexibility in extending the reach of in-house legal, regulatory or natural resource departments by providing knowledgeable counsel and management expertise without the overhead of additional employees.  If your organization doesn’t have in-house resources, we partner closely with your senior leaders, allowing you to realize the value of in-house expertise without additional burden.

•  Timely, on-budget, defensible project approval.  Huperetes Advisors brings strategic oversight of federal and local land-use approval processes including pre-approval positioning and preparedness, direct negotiation with approving agencies, and coordination of proponent’s project team.  Leverage our expertise in solving natural-resource (such as water, water quality, endangered species, public lands) challenges to navigate the complex regulatory approval process and secure defensible project approvals.  It’s important that project approvals are defensible to minimize the cost and delay of post-approval litigation.

•  Cost-effective, practical resolution of stakeholder concerns and objections.  We facilitate non-litigated dispute resolution by identifying the common interests of clients and potential opponents.  By facilitating a true connection of concepts and ideas, we identify actual areas of conflict to focus dispute resolution energy where it will have the most significant impact.  Our expertise in this area focuses on resolution of land-use and natural resource project disputes among multiple stakeholders and regulatory agencies and includes resolution of business disputes where ongoing relationship or community impact are strong considerations.
